Sometimes one of the best ways to deal with mental health issues is to talk to someone about it.

It can really help to talk about your feelings, to start to understand what they mean, and to find better ways to cope with what is going on in your life. Your support person might be a friend or family member, a doctor, or a counsellor who you can talk to on the phone or face to face.

If you want to talk to someone over the phone you could call:

Youthline on 0800 37 66 33

Lifeline on 0800 543 354

Healthline on 0800 611 116

The Depression Helpline on  0800 111 757

A good new website to check out is www.thelowdown.co.nz. The Lowdown site is a great online resource for finding out more about depression. There is heaps of information, contact details for help services, personal narratives and celebrity stories. There is also an online message board where you can communicate with other young people and the Lowdown team.
