Whether you are hunting for your first job, a part time job for some extra cash while at high school, or a job to earn that essential moolah to help you to survive while studying - we have some important info for you.

At high school or even at Uni you probably sat through a couple of boring life skills type class about how to write up a CV and covering letter. Now that you are applying for a job, you are desperately hoping that those notes where not in the pile of exercise books that you and your mates so happily destroyed in a random act of freedom after your last exam.

Well have no fear, the URGE crew are here...take a breath and read on because we have some tips to help you create your CV and covering letter right here.

When applying for a job your CV is your initial draw card and is what "sells you" to the employer, so it's safe to say that you should put a lot of effort into your CV.

It's a good idea to have a template of a CV of your general details that you can update and develop as you gain new skills and experience.

When you apply for particular jobs, make sure you adjust your CV details to suit the job description, such as your personal statement.
Keep it short and sweet - employers probably have 50 other applicants CV's to read through (more then 2 pages but not over 4 pages).

Put all of the most important information on the first page.  If they like it they will continue to read the rest of your CV.

Presentation and layout - a well presented CV that is tidy is a good reflection of how serious you are about your application.  Don't forget to check your spelling - not just with the good old Word spell check.

Include an overall positive summary of yourself so that the employer can get a sense of who you are.

Your CV should also be accompanied by a covering letter, which is basically the curtain raiser to your CV. It should introduce you, why the employer should pick you and also briefly outline your understanding of the organisation. For an example of the layout of a covering letter click here.
